Treatment Plans

When you visit us for assessment and treatment, you’ll be taking an active part in your physical therapy and wellbeing. When we first meet, we’ll ask you about events or habits that have led to your injury, and we’ll find out from you what outcome you hope to achieve through treatment. During the course of your physiotherapy, we’ll also probably need you to do exercise at home between visits, to increase strength, stretch tight areas and promote healing.

Here’s the process that will guide your road to recovery:

  1. An Informed Examination. This will take place on your first visit, so that we can make or confirm a diagnosis, and understand the state and stage of your injury. If you have a doctor’s referral or insurance, we’ll go through the paperwork. We’ll check your medical history, find out about your level of physical activity and any relevant lifestyle factors. We’ll ask you to explain your personal goals and let us know about any barriers that could hinder your recovery.
  1. A Professional Diagnosis. We’ll diagnose the source of your injury, and establish whether it has caused any knock-on effects within your body. Your physical therapist will also help you understand your condition, and we’ll show you where on our website to access informative articles so you know how to avoid a recurrence of you injury.
  1. A Unique Treatment Plan. We’ve learned in our practice that no two patients are exactly alike, which is why your unique history, condition and goals will be reflected in the personalized treatment plan we put together for you. To carry out your treatment, our Registered Physiotherapists may be helped by Kinesiologists and Physical Therapist Assistants. We might also call on the specialized services of other healthcare professionals, such as a Registered Massage Therapist, an Acupuncturist or Sports Doctor, for example.
  1. Home Improvement Assignments. As part of your treatment plan, we are also likely to assign you home exercises to help you heal faster, strengthen your system and achieve your goals.

Components of Care

Physiotherapy consists of many components of care to promote recovery: manual therapy, exercise, education and a home program, along with modalities such as laser, ultrasound and electronic interventions. Using comprehensive, evidence-based treatment practices, we implement personalized treatment programs that are specific to individual patient needs, and designed to restore and maintain physical function.

Experienced Physiotherapists

At Focus Physiotherapy we manage and treat disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system, such as fractures, acute sports injuries, arthritis, sprains, strains, inflammation, back pain, neck pain and spinal conditions.

We have extensive experience in rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery, something that is more often found in an outpatient clinic. Our treatments include joint and spine mobilization and manipulation, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, hot and cold packs, as well as electrical muscle stimulation modalities—such as cryotherapy and electrotherapy.  We have invested in technology to help your physical recovery and to provide innovative physiotherapy to the communities we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Physiotherapy, or physical therapy, is a health science, practised by physiotherapists, or physical therapists. It’s an effective way to treat injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Physiotherapy is used to manage pain and treat acute injuries, as well as chronic conditions. Many athletes also use the services of a physiotherapist to achieve performance goals. Physiotherapists also promote good practices for active, healthy living, along with disease and injury prevention.
Registered Physiotherapists are professionals who have attended university and obtained advanced degrees in physiotherapy. In Ontario, a Registered Physiotherapist is a health professional registered by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario to provide physiotherapy treatment to the public. Currently Registered Physiotherapists must complete a master’s degree in Physiotherapy at one of the five Ontario Universities that offer the program.
We get this one a lot!  We wish we could wave a magic wand, but unfortunately the answer is no. You recovery depends on a lot of things, and one of them is how long you have had the issue. The best advice we can give is that if something is bothering you today, come and see us as soon as you can.  Your health is too important to ignore the warning signs.
Many people report similar types of pain, but each patient is unique. Our role as Registered Physiotherapists is to ensure an accurate diagnosis that considers multiple factors, such as history, lifestyle and wellness goals. The thoroughness of our initial assessment at Focus Physiotherapy allows us to identify issues that might have been missed at other clinics.  In our experience, this results in better recovery and a happier patient.
Physiotherapy is like diet and exercise. It takes repeated efforts to make progress and see results. Just like you would not expect to benefit from dieting or exercising once a week, you can’t expect to see results without following a consistent regimen. Your Registered Physiotherapist will outline the most efficient and effective path to recovery. The closer you follow the plan, the quicker you will recover.
